Kanjin and Copilot code review: your own agent, or GitHub’s.

Copilot code review is GitHub’s reviewer for pull requests. Kanjin runs the coding agent that you already use on a Jira ticket, has it review and fix its change first, and makes the change shorter for you to read.

Copilot code review Kanjin
When it reads the change When it is requested on a pull request. In the IDEs and in Copilot CLI, it also reviews local changes. In the ticket’s worktrees, before the pull request exists, and again in the pull request review.
Who writes the review Copilot, on GitHub. Its full project context gathering runs on GitHub Actions. Your own coding agent runs Review, Overengineer and Fix, signed in with your own plan. Then you review the change.
Where the result goes Review comments with a severity, suggestions that you commit, and an overview comment. The ticket session and the review in Kanjin. Kanjin never comments on a pull request.
How you read the change In the pull request on GitHub or in your IDE, with its comments. In Kanjin’s review: the blocks that preserve behavior fold, and every other change stays on screen, in the original code with its line numbers.
Fixes Fix with Copilot sends a comment to Copilot cloud agent, which commits to the branch or opens a pull request against it. Fix runs on your agent in the worktrees and checks each finding first. After a push, Fix Failures sends the failed GitHub checks and the open review threads to your agent.
Approval and merge Its reviews do not count toward required approvals by default. Copilot approvals, in public preview, can satisfy a required approval when an administrator turns them on. Kanjin never approves a pull request, never merges one, and never labels a change safe to merge.
Git hosts GitHub, and Azure DevOps in public preview. GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket, and local folders on your Mac.

What Copilot code review does

Copilot code review reviews pull requests on GitHub, finds issues and suggests fixes that you apply in a few clicks. It also reviews local changes in VS Code, Visual Studio, Xcode, the JetBrains IDEs and Copilot CLI.

It reads instruction files such as .github/copilot-instructions.md and AGENTS.md. Fix with Copilot hands a comment to Copilot cloud agent.

What Kanjin does instead

Copilot code review is GitHub’s reviewer, and Copilot cloud agent is GitHub’s agent. Kanjin runs the agent that you already use, such as Claude Code, Codex or opencode, on a Jira ticket on your Mac.

Kanjin never comments on the pull request and never approves it. Its review works on GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket, and it folds the blocks that the classifier judges behavior-preserving.

Using both

Kanjin works before the pull request, and Copilot code review works on it. On GitHub, the ticket in Kanjin shows the checks and the open review threads of the pull request, and Fix Failures sends them to your agent.

Questions

Is Kanjin a GitHub Copilot code review alternative?

For a part of the work. Copilot comments on pull requests on GitHub. Kanjin has your own agent review and fix its change before the pull request, and gives you a shorter diff to read, on GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket.

Does Kanjin need GitHub Copilot?

No. Kanjin runs Claude Code, Codex, opencode or Gemini CLI, each with its own sign-in.
